Maybe it's just something rooted in my childhood, my comic book collecting days (ages 9-13), but to this day nothing makes me happier than finding shit like this. On the cheap.

The coolest thing here is a book that I picked up for $0.49
NEW WORLD WRITING is dated from 1955, and it features 2 novel excerpts (they used to do that in those days: publish novel excerpts ... and call them novels, not memoirs. Heh...)
Excerpt 1 "JAZZ OF THE BEAT GENERATION" by Jean-Louis .... can anyone guess who that might be?
If you guessed Jack Kerouac (and the novel excerpt, ON THE ROAD -- finally published in 1957 -- you win a big Hersey's kiss)
Excerpt 2 -- also dated from 1955 -- cracks me up:
That's right -- CATCH-18 ... of course, the novel would eventually be called CATCH-22 ... they just hadn't reached that draft yet. So, if this excerpt is dated from 1955 and the novel was published in 1961 ... that means the novel was finally published after ... 6 years?
Now here's that Hershey's kiss I promised.

I need to emphasize that PERMANENT OBSCURITY is not "erotica," although it has BDSM overtones (leaning toward so-called "femdom"). It's really a dark comedy about bohemia and the difficulty of relationships (female/male and female/female) and finally the big question for anyone in the arts (or in the tabloid media): sudden fame vs. permanent anonymity.
